“Those who knew Till best described him as a responsible, funny and infectiously high-spirited child”(Emmett Till. biography) . His mother often worked more than 12 hours a day so Emmett took on a lot of responsibilities around the house such as doing the laundry, cooking, and cleaning. He was very young to take on all of these responsibilities.
His best friend when he was younger, Richard Heard said that Emmett was extremely funny and always pulled jokes out of his pockets; he loved to make people laugh. He was a chubby kid and most guys were skinny but he never let that get in his way; he made a lot of friends at his school. His Uncle Moses Wright was visiting them in Chicago and then was going back to Mississippi, where Emmett lives, and was taking Emmett’s cousin, Wheeler Parker back with him and Emmett begged his mother to let him go. Mamie Till agreed to let him go. |
